Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas is Wales's best-known poet and in 2014 Swansea is set to celebrate the centenary of his birth with many events planned throughout the year.

"My birthday began with the water -
Birds and the birds of the winged trees flying my name
Above the farms and the white horses
         And I rose
     In rainy autumn
And walked abroad in a shower of all my days"

'Poem in October' from Dylan Thomas' Collected Poems  (London: Phoenix, 2003)

The Dylan Thomas Centre

The Dylan Thomas Centre provides a permanent exhibition on Dylan Thomas and his life and is also home to a year-round programme of literary events, including book launches, plays, poetry evenings, changing exhibitions and science talks. It hosts the annual Dylan Thomas Festival held every October from 27 October - 9 November.

This year's Dylan Thomas Festival features famous football journalists, world class novelists and Daleks from Doctor Who!

The Centre also has a bookshop cafe for a delicious lunch, or you may simply browse over coffee and cake.

The Dylan Thomas Experience

With The Dylan Thomas Experience you can enjoy a guided tour of  Swansea, Dylan’s seaside town, visiting the house where he was born, and the streets, parks and pubs that shaped his writing.

Other tours take you to Carmarthenshire and the Boat House in Laugharne where he was at his happiest and most creative, working away in his tiny studio perched above the sea that inspired so much of his poetry.
