Welsh Tourism Minister visits Cwmshon Cottages

We were delighted when Shadow Welsh Tourism Minister Suzy Davies visited our prize-winning cottages recently. This is how her vist was reported in South Wales Evening Post Monday on January 14, 2013

"SHADOW Welsh Tourism Minister Suzy Davies has visited prize-winning tourist accommodation in the Swansea Valley.

Mrs Davies, a Welsh Conservative regional AM for South Wales West, was welcomed to Cwmshon Cottages in Ynysmeudwy, near Pontardawe, by owners Andrew and Fiona Rickson.

The cottages, a pair of restored stone-built miners' homes, won first prize in the self-catering category of the Swansea Bay Tourism Awards.

Mrs Davies was keen to see the cottages for herself after hearing about them at the awards. She said: "I am very impressed with what Fiona and Andrew have done with these old cottages.

"From the pictures of what they were like before they have worked miracles.

"I think they are to be commended for the investment they have made in this project.

"Wales has huge potential to create jobs from tourism, but at the moment we are nowhere near bringing in enough visitors or revenue.

"The South Wales Valleys are a hidden gem which need to be marketed to the wider world and the Ricksons have made it that little bit easier for visitors to choose this part of Wales as their destination."
